Moonfruit was founded in 1999 soon after the dotcom crash. It was a tough period, but business grew 40% each year from 2007, and staff grew to 40 by the end of 2011. The business used profits from sales and raised $2.4m for accelerated growth in Sept 2010.

Aiming to democratise web design and e-commerce online for everyone, Moonfruit provides a design-led DIY website and shop builder tools so that small and medium businesses can build their own websites and shops online – web, mobile and Facebook. Moonfruit hosts the sites and businesses can customise the style and layout of their websites to reflect their brand without the need to understand any complicated coding or computer software languages like HTML.

Growing rapidly, a third of Moonfruit’s users are in the US and over 4 million sites have been built using their design software. This UK based team of developers, creatives and entrepreneurs is passionate about great design, great products and supporting new startups, small businesses and design communities.

The realization that the internet was a cheap and critical channel to the UK and global markets has been vital to our success, giving us the confidence to open our latest office in the US.”
